Since 1986 Middle Fork River Tours has been providing quality river vacations on the Middle Fork of the Salmon River. Clint and Molly Frank of Sandpoint, Idaho own and operate the company and take great pride in offering exceptional whitewater rafting and fishing trips for families, friends, and corporations. "We have remained a small family owned company so we can take an active role and be personally involved with all aspects of our guests river experience." Clint leads most every trip and has a genuine enthusiasm for life and the river. Molly's love of the outdoors and zest for good food has led her to create a river menu that is as diverse and exciting as the river we run.

frankMolly and Clint met 22 years ago on the Lochsa River in Idaho while both attending the University of Montana. Clint, knowing he wanted a career in the outdoors, received a Forestry degree in Recreation Resource Management. Molly, with a love for creativity and children, earned a degree in Elementary Education.

Today, in the off season, they live in Molly's hometown of Sandpoint, Idaho, where Clint works for the City of Sandpoint as a firefighter and Schweitzer Mountain as a ski patroller.  Molly manages the business and keeps up with Piper and Max's endless activities.  "We have always shared a love for the outdoors and can usually be found enjoying them with our children in tow."

With Molly's amazing meal planning and exceptional organization and Clint's twenty year's plus of guiding Idaho's whitewater you are guaranteed to have an amazing experience with us on the Middle Fork.  "We are thrilled to have the opportunity to share the beauty of the Middle Fork with your family, friends, and colleagues. Please join us for the adventure of your lifetime."

Plunging 107 miles through the largest, most remote primitive area in the continental United States, Idaho's Middle Fork of the Salmon is the nation's premier wilderness river. Offering a spectacular journey of both adventure and solitude, the Middle Fork is a crystal clear, pristine mountain river that tumbles through the heart of Idaho's 2.3 million-acre River of No Return Wilderness Area. A rugged country of such awesome beauty, it captivated President Teddy Roosevelt, who established the first federal protection of this area in 1905. Today, its untamed beauty remains for us to experience, having changed little since the Tukedeka Shoshone Indians roamed the river canyon over a century ago.

A dynamic river dropping over 2700 feet in elevation, the Middle Fork begins high in the Sawtooth Mountains. Starting small and feisty, it winds through a heavily forested alpine canyon, thick with fir, pine and spruce. Surging rapids are interspersed with pools and riffles full of wild trout. As the Middle Fork drops in elevation, the terrain then becomes more arid to expose rugged canyons dotted with mountain mahogany, pockets of aspen, and towering ponderosa pines.mf river

Along with sheer beauty, the Middle Fork canyon has many special features that create an amazing journey. Floating the river offers a chance to see a variety of wildlife in their natural habitat. There are a number of hot springs bubbling up along the way to provide a refreshing soak. Native-American pictographs and pit-house depressions from traditional river camps are still visible for us to marvel. A short hike might reveal an old log cabin tucked away in the forest thicket, abandoned long ago but still standing to remind us of the few hearty folks who braved this rugged country. We will also see inspiring geological features, waterfalls, slick-rock granite cathedrals, and panoramic vistas that instill in us the incredible beauty of mother nature.

As the premiere alpine river in the country, the Middle Fork of the Salmon drops 2700 ft in it's 100 mile course providing heart pounding whitewater excitement with crystal clear waters. It is a wonderfully diverse river with whitewater ranging from long technical rapids that require precise maneuvering, to exhilarating drops at Velvet and Tappan Falls. The big waves of Impassable Canyon offer a fantastic finish to this exciting whitewater trip. There are over 80 rapids in all with the largest being class IV. Our guide staff are excellent high and low water boatmen and look forward to the challenges of the Middle Fork each summer.

We offer state-of-the-art equipment to challenge the rapids of the Middle Fork. All of our rafts are self-bailing Maravia's and are made specifically for the demands of whitewater. We want all of our guests to experience the Middle Fork of the Salmon River at their own comfort level so three types of rafts are provided for your enjoyment. On any one of our trips you can choose between an oar boat where you sit back and relax while the guide maneuvers the boat, grab a paddle and enjoy the teamwork of a paddle boat with crew and captain, or test your own skills in one of our inflatable kayaks. For fishing enthusiasts, we also provide drift boats and custom fishing rafts upon request.
